There are many events and organizations in and around the Metro-Detroit area
that may be of interest to new expatriate families.
Many new expat families join the Birmingham/Bloomfield Newcomers Club. This organization holds social events, informative meetings and tours of area attractions. Their international chapter holds regular meetings of conversation groups in French, Japanese, German and Spanish. A welcome reception is held on the first Monday of every month (except July and August) for people who would like to find out more about the organization. Another popular organization is the International Community Club. This organization is open to all interested people, American and International. They offer regular programs tailored to showcase different cultures. It is fun and educational. Call Linette Yaguda at (248) 932-7504 for information. There are many summertime events in the greater Detroit area that are exciting, and educational. Those new to the area may want to check these out:

- Arts, Beats and Eats – Celebrate summer in downtown Pontiac, Labor Day Weekend
- The Woodward Dream Cruise – If you love classic American cars, every one you ever imagined will be out on the road the weekend of August 20 and 21.
- Detroit Baseball – catch a Tiger’s game at Comerica park.
